About Evenley CC

INTRODUCTION
For many generations, the sport of cricket has been played in the village of Evenley . In past years, the Cricket Square was situated within the land of Rectory Farm . Today this is now a small housing development called Church Leys, which was built in the 1970's. Cricket has since moved to be played on the village green, and now has an excellent reputation as one of the best wickets within the South Northamptonshire leagues.

THE STRUCTURE OF E.C.C
Evenley Cricket Club is organised by its own management committee, which comprises playing and non-playing members of the club. They meet on a monthly basis to have informal discussions about topical issues, which range from sponsorship, fund raising and social events through to more tactical discussions about selection and organisation of the club in general.

THE TEAMS
Evenley has three cricket teams, each playing within one of South Northamptonshire 's six leagues. The First eleven are in the Premier league, and have been for some considerable time, having won the Premier League Championship in 2001,2002,2004,2005,2006,2007, runners up in 2009 due to a rain affected by and although winning more games than anybody else, finishing runners up in 2003!. The standard of cricket is high as far as village cricket is concerned, and is most certainly competitive, throughout the division.
The second eleven are in Division Two, they play at an ever increasing level of competiveness.
We also have a third team which entered the fifth division in 2009, this is made up mainly of our junior members and a few seasoned campaigners, from this we are hoping to build for the future. There are also a few friendlies on a Sunday afternoon, this a lesser standard of cricket, played with less emphasis on competition, and more on having fun, and enjoying the sport, obviously the game is played to be won, the Sunday team accommodates a wide variation in standards of ability, from the less able to the better players, and from the younger players to the more mature.
All the teams enjoy a great social scene, gathering for a drink with the villagers after the game in the local pub, The Red Lion. There is also a very active junior section.

JUNIOR SECTION
2009 was the Junior section’s 4th year.
We provide for regular junior coaching on a Sunday Morning during the season on Evenley Village Green as well as Sunday morning friendlies. Nets are provided before the start of the season, this year (2009) at Brackley Leisure centre
In 2009, we joined the South Northants Junior League at U13 level. This meant  competitive fixtures every Sunday morning of the season for our U13 squad of players.
Of course, success and enjoyment for all will continue to be dependent upon an increasing number of adult players and parents committing to coaching, supporting and being the taxi service for away games.

THE MATCHES
All matches played are based on limited over cricket, the first team playing 45 over matches, the second and third teams playing 40 over matches. Usually fixtures are arranged so that each of the first and second eleven teams takes it in turn to play a home fixture on Evenley Village Green, the third eleven playing their home games at Beachborough School, Westbury, our thanks to them for letting us use this fabulous facility. Most opposition comes from the local surrounding villages, although this does encompass the odd village from slightly further afield, who are attracted to the well organised South Northants League. Teas are part of the match fee, which are held in Evenley Village Hall.

SPECTATORS
Most matches (weather permitting) are well supported by the village, so please come along and support the teams whenever you can. The pub is always open on a Saturday afternoon. Allow me to set the scene for you...
A blazing hot summer's day, sat on a bench on the village green, taking in the summer sun, sipping a long cool drink, and watching the traditional sport of cricket in pleasant surroundings of one of the prettiest villages in the country...What could be better! Matches start at 2pm

MEMBERSHIP
The club is always on the lookout for new members. This is in both a playing and non-playing capacity, and is open to both male and females of all ages.
