Evenley CC has just completed one of the most successful seasons in its history:
The First XI were crowned champions of Division One in the South Northants Cricket League after victory in a thrilling ‘winner takes all’ final game of the season against Thornborough. They will play in the Premier Division next season.
The Second XI also gained promotion after coming second in Division Three. They may well have also been challenging for top spot had it not been for some unfortunate rained off matches against the weaker teams in the division.
The mid-week team finished third in the Buckingham League and won the Shield in a tense final over at Waddesdon, so there was plenty of silverware on display at the end of season awards celebrations.
Junior coaching also continued on Sunday mornings with forty-eight ‘All Stars’ and ‘Dynamos’ being taught by a dedicated team of coaches.
As usual, the season was rounded off with an inter-club match on the Green, which this year was played as a memorial to our much-missed clubmate Miles Brooke, which was concluded with a presentation of the new ‘Milo Cup’ in his memory. There was a fantastic turnout of players and spectators, allowing us to raise an amazing £460 for the two charities chosen by his family. Thank you to everyone who donated and also to all of our supporters within the village and local community.
